Valerie Vaughan

How good is Valerie Vaughan's thinking about astrology?

Read Valerie Vaughan's Debunking the Debunkers and focus on those parts of it which seem to give positive support to the claim that Astrology works.

The way to do this is to do as many points as you can in depth. If this means that you can only cover one or two points, so be it. A paper that covers just one issue, with intensive analysis of the best argument on each side of just that issue would be a great way to fulfil this stage. A rambling discourse that skims over a dozen topics without deply analyzing any of them is a really bad way to attempt to fullfil this satge of your odyssey.

For this assignment:
Explain one of Vaughn's best arguments in your own words.
Then look at the anti-astrology arguments which she mentions, and explain whichever one best applies to Vaughn's argument in your own words.
(Or you can start with a credible anti-astrology argument. The point is, get yourself a pair of closely related arguments, one for and one against astrology.)
Critique the arguments on both sides. In particular, evaluate Vaughn's replies to the anti-astrology argument.
If you have space, do this over (and over) again with new pairs of arguments.

Finally, come to an overall conclusion about how well Vaughan succeeds in defending astrology. (If you can improve on her defense, go ahead.)
