Who bears the burden of proof on the issue of whether or not all crop circles are man-made? Suppose that you had never heard of crop circles and you came across an elaborate design trampled into a cornfield. What would be your first and most natural reaction? Would you say, "must be aliens!" Would your natural inclination be to think that it must involve strange and mysterious unknown forces? Or would your reaction be "who the hell would trample an elaborate design into a cornfield?"

If it turns out that the cerealologists bear the burden of proof, what would be the most reasonable conclusion to draw if it turned out that there was nothing about crop circles that could not be reasonably explained by attributing them to human intervention?
